It happens every year at this time: a team of educational consultants (who match prospective students with the right schools) arrives for a tour of Proctor. The timing couldn't be worse. We are the fifteenth (and last) school of their five day adventure, so they're exhausted and tired of being together. Our admission team has to drop reading 400-plus application folders and orchestrate tours, panel discussions and dinner. Campus is muddy and wet. Oh: they arrived at 3:00 PM, after students have scattered for activities.

No matter! As our students in English Seminar: Middle British Literature know from their study of Victorian sensibilities, we alone are responsible for our destiny--despite life circumstances! Jackson stands and recites William Ernest Henley's inspirational poem, Invictus:

The consultants missed this, of course....

Here's Will (left) dropping his stage role as Colonel Mustard to charm Spanish-speaking consultants on tour with Pedro.

How they would have relished Fenny's dramatic incantation of the poem Nelson Mandela recited day after day in his prison cell!

"It matters not how strait the gate
How charged with punishments the scroll
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul."

So, we don't care when our visitors tour campus! We choose to make the best of things!

Still, it would have been nice if they had been a part of of this biology study of floral sex:

They would have loved guest artist Tiger Okoshi's masterful performance in assembly this week....

By the time they visited Lovejoy Library, students were long gone.

The afternoon ceramics activity was over. Too bad.

Instead, they got to appreciate our over-the-top recording studio, here introduced to an applicant by Toni (right) and Seth, who is a fixture there.

They got a good feeling for the grungy student hangout known as the Wise Lobby....

All in all, it was pretty close to perfect.

Next time, we'll get them over to Jake's!

Eliza steers a pair of visiting consultants toward an imposing mud puddle.
Tulips about to be torn apart.
Alec goes after a petal with a scalpel while Ian studies the back of his hand under a microscope.
Court booking it in the library earlier in the day.
Tiger Okoshi directing jazz/rock: "Visualize your notes in shapes and colors!"
Hannah gets some oversight from Graydon.

You want a tour? We'll give you a tour....
